Are there any fur-trade posts in northwest Wisconsin?

I am planning a 'fur trading post' vacation with my 9 year old grandson. I know about the one at Pine City and Grand Marais, MN. I don't want him to have to get a passport to go to Thunder Bay. I was wondering if there are any located in Northwestern Wisconsin that we could add to the list. we will be stopping off at the Hinckley fire museum and the state parks along the north shore. - Elaine, Twin Cities

What a wonderful trip to take with your grandson! Yes, there is a fur post near Danbury, Wis., just half an hour east of Hinckley, called Forts Folle Avoine, www.theforts.org. A good time to go would be the Great Folle Avoine Fur Trade Rendezvous in late July. For more, see Scenes from the fur trade.
