Where's a Cape Cod-style beach vacation near Green Bay?

My family and I are moving from upstate New York to Green Bay in the middle of July. We originally had a Cape Cod vacation planned and now have to miss it because we'll be moving. We would like to have a similar beach getaway in Wisconsin within an hour or two of Green Bay. Any suggestions? - Jami, Green Bay

As soon as you move to Green Bay, you'll find that your neighbor, Door County, often is called the "Cape Cod of the Midwest.''

There are many great beaches; our favorite is Europe Bay beach in Newport State Park, but you may like others better.

We have a whole section on Door County.

However, it gets very crowded in July. You may want to head to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan instead. We love the beach at J.W. Wells State Park, not far from Green Bay.

If you keep going, you'll find more and more great beaches. For more, see America's freshwater Riviera.

There are even good beaches on Mackinac Island, which is New England-like in some ways. For more, see Mackinac Island by bicycle.

Plan soon, though.
