What is there to do in Chetek, Wis.?

We are going to Chetek, Wis., for a long weekend what is there to do there, and what are good places to eat? I hear the chain of lakes is great is the fishing good, too? - John, Eagan, Minn.

Chetek is on the edge of the glacial moraine and near the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. About 15 minutes to the southeast near New Auburn, the Chippewa Moraine Interpretive Center has some beautiful loop trails to walk.

There's good bicycling just to the east of New Auburn in Cornell, on the Chippewa River. The very pretty, paved Old Abe State Trail goes from Brunet Island State Park to Lake Wissota State Park in Chippewa Falls. For more, see A trail for Old Abe.

Looks as if the fishing is pretty good, or at least as if fishing is very popular. Check the city web site for more. It'd be fun to take in a water-ski show by the Chetek Hydroflites.

I'm not familiar with restaurants in Chetek, but you could check Tripadvisor. There are reviews of Gilligan's, Pokegama Inn Supper Club and Red's.

I've heard good things about the Blue Hills Inn Supper Club on County Road O east of Rice Lake. It's in a scenic spot in the middle of the Blue Hills.
