    There's nothing better than skiing (or snowshoeing or hiking) through a twinkling forest or across a luminary-lined lake. There's usually a bonfire and hot chocolate to enjoy afterward.

  2. Lake Minnetonka Klondike Dog Derby

    Excelsior, MN2026-02-13

    On Friday, spectators can meet the mushers and dogs and go on sled-dog rides. The races begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, and there will also be bonfires, games and beverages at the Klondike Village.

  3. Winter Festival

    There's a snow sculpting contest, an arts walk, music, a candlelight ski and snowshoe tours to Sigurd Olson's Listening Point.

  4. Polar Fest

    This festival features such events as ice golf, a Freeze Your Buns run, a snowshoe hike in Tamarac Wildlife Refuge and kite-flying, with professional giant-kite flyers, kite decorating and prizes for amateurs.

  5. Sturgeon Spectacular

    Fond du Lac, WI2026-02-13

    Lake Winnebago is the setting for this celebration of giant fish. There will be ice carving and snow sculpting, a snowman-building contest, bonfires and live music.

  6. Michigan Ice Fest

    Watch ice-climbing demos, slide shows and professional climbers and take clinics for beginners at spectacular Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior.

  7. Fire & Ice

    Sturgeon Bay, WI2026-02-13

    Ice and snow sculptors create pieces around town. There's a novice category for beginners. On Friday, there will be a candlelight ski/hike at Big Creek Nature Preserve, and on Saturday, there will be fireworks.

    This festival north of the Twin Cities includes snowmobile races, fat biking, an ice-fishing tournament, sled-dog rides and a free ice-fishing clinic for kids.

  9. Hygge Festival

    Grand Marais, MN2026-02-13

    This northwoods festival, named for the Scandinavian concept of winter coziness, features a tour of great fireplaces, romantic sleigh rides, guided waterfall hikes and live music.

  10. Winter Jubilee

    Nisswa, MN2026-02-13

    This Brainerd Lakes town celebrates with smoosh racing, competitions in snow sculpting, nail driving, ice fishing and wood splitting, and a Saturday parade.
