    This town, just north of Minneapolis, calls itself the Halloween Capital of the World. Festivities include a Light Up the Night Parade Oct. 18, a house-decorating contest Oct. 24-25, and a Grande Day Parade starting 1 p.m. Oct. 25.

    There's a craft fair, kids' games and music, but the 1 p.m. parade is the main event in this riverside village just south of Madison, where residents reported more than a dozen UFO sightings in the winter of 1987.

  11. BatFest

    This Fox River town hosts a pumpkin roll, pumpkin-carving battles, "Thriller'' dance, costume contests, bat meet-and-greet and a parade.

    In the National Museum of Mexican Art and Harrison Park, families can create ofrendas (altars), eat pan de muerto, listen to musical performances and get faces painted. Admission is free.

  13. Foreverfest/Power-On at Dr. Evermor's Sculpture Park

    This fundraiser to buy the land on which this quirky metal sculpture park sits will feature music, family activities, steampunk and a create-your-own sculpture. At 7 p.m. Saturday, the Forevertron will be lighted.
